The Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) in Michigan has invested in one XPS\u2122 from XVIVO Perfusion in order to facilitate EVLP procedures through collaboration with the three transplant centers in the state. This collaboration is the first of its kind in the USA and it aims to increase the utilization of lungs through the performance of EVLP since one OPO facilitates, coordinate and support multiple lung transplant centers.<\/strong><\/div>\n

University of Michigan and the Michigan OPO, Gift of Life Michigan, are leading the collaboration among the three transplant centers in the area. The collaboration between the OPO who will perfuse the lungs with STEEN Solution\u2122 using the XPS\u2122, and the transplant center that will perform the lung transplant is the first of its kind in the USA. The aim of the collaboration is to increase the utilization of lungs and give transplants to more patients with severe lung disease.

<\/span>Last week the centers completed their XVIVO Perfusion System (XPS\u2122) training during a two day course. The Michigan centers will start enrolling patients into the NOVEL study in the beginning of 2014. There continues to be a great interest in the USA for the STEEN Solution\u2122 EVLP method, the XPS\u2122 and to participate in the NOVEL study.

<\/span><\/span>"We are pleased that more well-known clinical transplantation centers have joined the NOVEL trial and that the connected OPO has invested in an XPS\u2122. This collaboration is first of its kind in the US and will increase the utilization of lungs and give transplants to more patients with severe lung disease, since one OPO can support multiple transplant centers.
