Case report on the first US pediatric heart transplant using the XVIVO Heart Assist Transport™ (XHAT) System. This Compassionate Use Exemption was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). An 11-year-old recipient successfully received a heart from a 27- year-old donor. The total preservation time (clamp to clamp) was 238 minutes, whereof 187 minutes perfusion time on XHAT. The transplant was uncomplicated, and the recipient was discharged home on postoperative day 16. Endomyocardial biopsy and cardiac catheterization at six months demonstrated no evidence of allograft rejection with normal hemodynamics and cardiac function.

“This case highlights the potential of [XVIVO Heart Assist Transport] to expand donor access and
improve preservation in pediatric heart transplantation.”
